Modern melancholia is boring.
It is:
- The feeling of life passing by, "not doing enough"
- Lost in screenlands, mostly regretted
- Unavailability and loneliness
There's a form of old school poetic melancholy that is kind of cool actually? And mostly dead. Not many people I know pull this shtick off very well.
- Yearning and longing, the eyes carry some darkness
- Deep quiet vulnerability that flows into art
- An attention to life that is mostly unrequited
This is not to say being full of melancholia is good. However the ideal amount of sadness in a person is probably not zero. But it might as well be if it's going to be modern melancholia.
