In a rationalist meetup you:
- worry about how if anyone builds it everyone dies (despite actively building it in a cushy tech job)
- debate policies that are of interest to white collars
- navel gaze about loneliness crises, generational divides, screens and scotty alexander's latest blog post
- go back home, having fulfilled the hobby of talking about things in a vacuum.
In a furry meetup or convention you 1:
- figure out your fursona, an indulgently creative act
- think about animals
- engage with other people's fursonas
- have an enjoyable unpretentious time
clearly furry meetups are more enjoyable than rationalist meetups.

I haven't been to one, it's not a thing in this city. this is what my idea of furry meetups are. ↩
