dmart: Went to comedy show next to my house
dmart: made me realise that with some practice I could maybe become a local comedian. can't be that hard to outcompete
dmart: I could get as many laughs out of my impromptu [event] talk than two of the comedians who performed in the same amount of time, and I wasn't even trying to be a comedian there
N: Lol you should try open mic
dmart: also idk maybe it's [chst] effect but 4/7 comedians who showed up are north indians making jokes in fast hindi
dmart: also for whatever reason I was one of 3 men in the room, and in the first guy's set I was the only man and I was on the front row and very distinct with my yellow kurta. this was a crowd work type of guy from gurgaon. so I became his target
dmart: and I enjoy a good roast comedy, but I think his jokes were too undercooked
dmart: "yeh dekho kadhi chaawal baitha hain"
dmart: "ye ekdum guitarist jaisa lag raha. ravi shankar jaisa"
dmart: "toh bataaon, do you have a girlfriend"
dmart: "kidhar kaam karte ho? software mein? konsa company? oh [n]? hmm"
A: my mindless toilet humor is better than this
dmart: I tried to help him a bit by giving him bait. and telling him my flatmate thought I was gay
dmart: didn't work
A: did you pay for this
dmart: yes unfortunately
dmart: 2 of the 7 comedians were decent
A: you should have given him a bigger bait
dmart: it wouldn't have helped I think
dmart: I was only the main bait, and that also he couldn't work with
dmart: also the crowd was actually tough
dmart: I feel like there was so much material also from just the audience composition which was 90% women
dmart: some people had tried some feminism type bits but again such low hanging fruit
dmart: one of the good comedians actually had a very intelligent bit on it, but no one was able to appreciate
dmart: a bit about trying to be a feminist guy in his UP native small town and failing badly
dmart: there was one guy who tried to be edgy and make transgender jokes. failed badly, bombed the worst
dmart: "I got on a hinge date. You see the trans women don't mark themselves as trans women, they just put women. It would be nice if you advertise. This is like Rahul claiming to be a Gandhi. He's a trans gandhi"
A: was this open mic
A: or this is their job
dmart: not an open mic
dmart: but idk how real these people were with it as a job
dmart: probably some part timers
dmart: actually I know the #1 and #2 problem with all these comedians
dmart: first is no one commits to their bit
dmart: absolutely no one committing at all
dmart: comedy 101 failure
dmart: everyone seeking encouragement or remarking on how tough the crowd is or whatever
dmart: second problem is that everyone is trying to maximise punchlines per second
dmart: no one actually is building any kind of tension
dmart: actually most comedy happens not in the joke or punchline. it happens in the tension building
dmart: if I zone out before, doesn't matter how good the punchline is
